De Heus Ghana Appoints Alexander Peeters as New GM Amid Major Expansion Efforts

De Heus Ghana has named Alexander Peeters as its new General Manager. This transition, effective immediately, marks a pivotal step forward in the company’s mission to empower farmers and enhance feed production capabilities across the region.
A Leadership Change at a Crucial Time
Peeters takes the helm following the tenure of Hugo Visscher, who has been instrumental in building De Heus Ghana from the ground up. Under Visscher’s leadership, the company launched its state-of-the-art production facility in Tema, developed a robust dealer network, and strengthened relationships with farmers and local partners.
Reflecting on his time with the company, Visscher shared:
“It has been an incredible journey. What we’ve achieved together, from building capacity to strengthening trust with farmers and dealers, is something I’m truly proud of. I’m confident Alexander will build on this momentum and take De Heus Ghana to even greater heights.”
A Global Vision, Locally Anchored
With more than 17 years of international experience in agribusiness, feed management, and market development, Peeters brings a global perspective to the Ghanaian market. His career has spanned Europe, Asia, and Africa, giving him a nuanced understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in emerging markets.
“This role isn’t just about leading operations,” said Peeters.
“It’s about being deeply connected to the needs of Ghanaian farmers and delivering value consistently. I’m honoured to lead De Heus Ghana into this next phase of growth, building on the strong foundation that Hugo and the team have laid.”
Round-the-Clock Operations Launched
Peeters’ appointment comes as De Heus Ghana celebrates another major milestone, the successful implementation of a fourth production shift at its Tema plant, enabling 24/7 operations for the first time.
This bold expansion aligns with the company’s strategy to improve feed availability, operational efficiency, and support for farmers across the country. The introduction of continuous production is expected to significantly increase output and meet the growing demand for high-quality animal feed.
“The fourth shift isn’t simply about extending hours,” Peeters explained.
“It’s about being more responsive to the needs of our farmers and employees. It reflects our understanding of their day-to-day challenges and our determination to support them with greater reliability and consistency.”
A Commitment to Ghana’s Agricultural Future
De Heus Ghana’s investment in round-the-clock production also aligns with national economic priorities, supporting local agriculture, food security, and job creation. The move reinforces the company’s broader commitment to infrastructure development and supply chain resilience in West Africa.
With Peeters at the helm, De Heus Ghana is poised to further strengthen its relationships with smallholder farmers, agribusinesses, and industry partners, advancing its mission to deliver sustainable growth and innovation in the feed sector.
What’s Next for De Heus Ghana?
As the company transitions into this next chapter, all signs point toward scaling operations, deepening community impact, and driving innovation in animal nutrition. Peeters’ international expertise is expected to bring fresh energy and new strategies that align with both global trends and local realities.
For Ghana’s agriculture sector, this leadership change and production expansion represent more than just internal milestones, they signify a growing ecosystem committed to excellence and farmer success.
