New Police Taskforce Formed to Combat Stolen Vehicle Imports in Ghana

CID Intensifies Efforts to Curb Rising Cases of Imported Stolen Cars
In a bold step to address the growing menace of vehicle theft, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has announced the formation of a new dedicated taskforce. The initiative aims to clamp down on the importation of stolen vehicles into the country through targeted intelligence-led operations.
According to the CID, the special taskforce will be responsible for identifying and impounding vehicles suspected to have been stolen and smuggled into Ghana. The move comes in response to recent increases in reported cases of stolen cars, many of which are traced back to international crime networks.
Intelligence-Driven Strategy to Strengthen Law Enforcement
The newly-formed taskforce will collaborate with both local and international law enforcement agencies to track vehicles flagged in other jurisdictions. The team will also be mandated to monitor shipping records, auction imports, and vehicle registration data to identify irregularities that may suggest criminal activity.
This development is part of broader efforts by the Ghana Police Service to modernize investigative operations and strengthen public safety. Officials are confident that the taskforce will help deter vehicle trafficking syndicates and restore public trust in the country’s vehicle import system.

Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious vehicle deals and consult the appropriate authorities when purchasing second-hand vehicles to avoid falling victim to theft-related complications.
