Okoe-Boye Quits MP Race To Focus On Chairmanship Position

Former Member of Parliament for the Ledzokuku constituency, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, has officially announced that he will not contest for the parliamentary seat in the 2028 elections. Instead, the seasoned politician has set his sights on a higher leadership role within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an interview, Dr. Okoe-Boye clarified that while he is stepping away from constituency politics in Teshie, his loyalty and service to the area and the NPP remain unwavering.

“I won’t do politics at Teshie again, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have the constituency at heart. I’ve been an MP before; I won the seat in opposition and lost it in government. That journey taught me valuable lessons. Now, I want to channel what I’ve learned at a higher level,” he explained.

Eyes on Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship

Dr. Okoe-Boye disclosed that he is currently holding consultations with party elders and key stakeholders as he prepares to contest the Greater Accra Regional Chairman position of the NPP.

He emphasized that the move is part of a broader strategy to help the party reclaim its lost strength in the Greater Accra Region, which suffered significant losses in the last general elections.

Mission: Reclaiming Lost Grounds in Greater Accra

According to the former legislator, reviving the NPP’s fortunes in Greater Accra will set the tone for the party’s resurgence nationwide.

“We lost woefully in Greater Accra during the last elections, and if there’s going to be a turnaround, it must start from here. Accra is the heart of the laws, and the party’s redemption must begin here. If strong leadership works in Greater Accra, that same spirit can be injected into other regions,” he stated in an interview on AsaasePa Radio.

A New Chapter in NPP Leadership?

As Dr. Okoe-Boye prepares to officially launch his campaign for the Greater Accra chairmanship, party watchers say his deep experience and track record could inject fresh energy into the NPP’s regional structure.

His declaration sets the stage for what is expected to be a keenly contested race as the party reorganizes ahead of the 2028 polls.
