Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart and former flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has officially withdrawn from the party’s ongoing “Thank You Tour” following a violent incident in Kumasi that left one of his supporters hospitalized with stab wounds.
Alleged Brawl Sparks Withdrawal
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, reportedly involved a physical altercation at an NPP event in Bantama, Kumasi, where a supporter of Ken Agyapong was allegedly stabbed by a man believed to be aligned with Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s camp. Eyewitnesses described the attacker as a “macho man” who disrupted the program and provoked chaos.
According to sources close to the Agyapong camp, the lawmaker was “deeply concerned” about the safety of his supporters and decided to step away from the tour until the matter is thoroughly investigated.
“This is not just an internal misunderstanding. This is an issue of safety, and Ken cannot continue on this tour when the lives of his followers are at risk,” a close associate stated.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Local police in Kumasi have launched an investigation into the stabbing. Although the identity of the attacker has not been officially confirmed, authorities retrieved bullet shells from the scene and are working with eyewitnesses to clarify what transpired.
As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been made, but security agencies have promised a full probe to bring clarity and justice.
Ken Agyapong Condemns Stabbing Incident, Calls for Discipline and Security Within NPP
At his much-anticipated press briefing at Ark Plaza in Kumasi, Kennedy Agyapong condemned the stabbing incident involving one of his supporters during the NPP’s “Thank You Tour,” calling it “an unfortunate reflection of growing intolerance.” He stated, “I will not sit quietly while innocent supporters are attacked for simply showing their loyalty.” Agyapong urged the party leadership to act swiftly, adding, “The safety of every party member must be non-negotiable. We cannot build unity with intimidation.” He emphasized that such acts must not be swept under the carpet and called for immediate disciplinary action once investigations are concluded.

The development has stirred fresh concerns over internal tensions within the ruling party as it prepares for the 2026 general elections. Political analysts warn that such incidents, if left unchecked, could damage party cohesion and voter confidence.
