Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Ghanaians that Morocco remains safe despite alarming social media reports.

In a social media post, Ablakwa emphasized that Ghanaians in Morocco have no cause for concern, dismissing widely circulated videos falsely claiming that 700 Africans were being massacred in the North African country.

Ablakwa revealed that he had a fruitful discussion with Her Excellency Imane Ouaadil, Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, who clarified that the disturbing footage circulating online is an old video from June 24, 2022, involving a border incident that tragically resulted in 23 deaths—none of whom were Ghanaians.

“She has assured that Ghanaians and all Africans living in Morocco are safe contrary to the widely circulated videos on social media falsely claiming that some 700 Africans are being massacred.”

    Strengthening Ghana-Morocco Relations

Beyond safety concerns, Ablakwa announced major diplomatic advancements between Ghana and Morocco, including:

    • Doubling of scholarships for Ghanaian students in Morocco from 90 to 180 starting this year.
    • visa waiver agreement between Ghana and Morocco, soon to be ratified by both countries’ parliaments.
    • Enhanced collaboration in agribusiness, tourism, and security.

This reassurance comes ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar in Morocco on Monday, March 24, 2025.
