Former President Nana Akufo-Addo has stated that Ghanaians made a mistake by voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the last election, thinking they were punishing him.

Speaking at a public gathering, Akufo-Addo emphasized that he had already completed his two-term presidency and was not on the ballot, meaning the consequences of that decision do not affect him but the people.

“Some people thought they were punishing me by voting for the NDC. But let me remind them, I served my two terms. I completed my time as president. So, who is suffering now?” he questioned.

Economic Hardships Fuel Regret

Many Ghanaians have expressed disappointment over the current economic crisis, citing high inflation, job losses, and soaring living costs. Some voters who supported the NDC now admit regretting their decision.

Yaw Mensah, a taxi driver in Kumasi, lamented:
“I voted for change because I thought things would get better. But now, fuel prices are too high, and customers are complaining. Life is harder than before.”

Similarly, Abena Owusu, a market woman in Accra, expressed her frustration:
“I believed the promises they made, but now I see it was all talk. Things are worse. If I had known, I would have thought twice before voting.”

Akufo-Addo Defends His Legacy

The former president highlighted his achievements, stating that his administration transformed Ghana through Free SHS, infrastructure development, and healthcare improvements.

“We brought Free SHS to give children a better future. We worked hard to build roads and improve healthcare. We had challenges, but we did our best for the country,” he said.

Akufo-Addo further blamed the NDC government for Ghana’s current economic struggles, attributing it to poor leadership and bad policy decisions.

“Leadership is about making the right choices. If you make the wrong ones, the people suffer,” he concluded.
