Kufuor Expresses Disappointment Over Exclusion from NPP’s Inner Circle

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has voiced his concern over being sidelined from major decisions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its National Council. Speaking with visible disappointment, the statesman revealed that he has not been invited to recent key meetings and consultations, a development he believes undermines the unity and institutional memory of the party he helped build.

Kufuor, who led Ghana between 2001 and 2009, is regarded as one of the NPP’s most respected founding figures. However, his recent remarks suggest a growing disconnect between the party’s current leadership and its senior statesmen. According to the former president, the lack of consultation and communication has left him feeling alienated from decisions that shape both the party’s direction and national policies.

Calls for Respect, Inclusion and Unity in the NPP

Kufuor noted that while he has largely stayed away from active politics to allow new leaders to emerge, the tradition of involving experienced voices in party-building and governance must not be neglected. He emphasized that the party’s internal cohesion and respect for institutional structures are essential for its long-term survival and national relevance.

Political watchers say the former president’s comments reflect growing concerns among party elders about the NPP’s internal dynamics ahead of the 2028 elections. Some believe his exclusion could signal broader issues of generational tension and a weakening of internal democratic consultation.

Calls have since emerged for the party’s leadership to engage more constructively with its senior members and uphold the values of inclusiveness and unity. Many believe that the wisdom and experience of elder statesmen like Kufuor remain crucial, especially in turbulent political times.
