Akufo-Addo Vows to Confront Alleged NDC Plot Against Prominent NPP Figures

In a recent interview, former Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye revealed alarming intelligence regarding an alleged plot by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against key figures in the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This revelation has sparked significant concern within the political landscape of Ghana.

Alleged NDC Conspiracy Targeting NPP Leaders
During his appearance on Wontumi TV on July 18, 2025, Okoe-Boye disclosed that prior to the NPP officially handing over power to the NDC, they received credible information regarding potential attacks on prominent NPP members. This plot purportedly aimed at high-profile figures such as Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the former Communications Minister, Godfred Dame, the former Attorney General, and Hawa Koomson, the former MP for Awutu Senya East.

The Alarming Intelligence
Okoe-Boye emphasized the severity of the intelligence gathered by the National Security team. He stated that the situation was so critical that then President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo contemplated contacting then-President-elect John Dramani Mahama to discuss the emerging threat.
“NDC members had promised to attack NPP members, including Godfred Dame, Hawa Koomson, and Ursula Owusu. We received that intel from National Security, and it was very dangerous,” Okoe-Boye explained. “The report was so alarming that President Akufo-Addo considered calling Mahama directly to address the issue.”

Preventing Violence: Akufo-Addo’s Response
In response to this potential threat, Akufo-Addo directed then-National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah and the transitional team to engage with NDC leadership. The goal was to prevent what could escalate into violent confrontations.
Okoe-Boye remarked, “Akufo-Addo ordered Kan Dapaah to meet with the transitional team to resolve the issue because, if not handled appropriately, it could have turned bloody.”
