The Pakyi District Court in the Atwima Kwanwoma district of the Ashanti region has remanded 32-year-old Kofi Asamoah, also known as Castro, into police custody. He is accused of the murder of 17-year-old Daniel Ofosuhene, a 2024 BECE candidate. Castro is scheduled to reappear in court on Tuesday, August 30, 2024.

Daniel Ofosuhene, a final-year student at Konkori D/A Junior High School, was fatally stabbed in the chest with a pair of scissors while trying to break up a fight between two lovers. The tragic incident occurred at the victim’s residence in Trede, Atwima Kwanwoma district, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, around 8 PM.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Samuel Mensah, the altercation involved 17-year-old Juliana Asamoah and her ex-boyfriend, Kofi Asamoah. ASP Mensah informed the court, presided over by Her Worship Dora Nsiah Jackson, that Juliana’s new boyfriend, also named Kofi and residing in Accra, called her to report that Castro had broken into his room and stolen his belongings.

Enraged by the accusation, Castro went to Juliana’s house that night. Upon realizing that Kofi (Juliana’s new boyfriend) was not present, Castro attempted to snatch Juliana’s mobile phone, escalating the confrontation. ASP Mensah detailed that Daniel Ofosuhene, a friend of Juliana, along with another boy, tried to intervene. In the scuffle, Castro pulled out a pair of scissors and stabbed Daniel in the chest. He also stabbed the other boy in the thigh.

Witnessing Daniel collapse and bleed profusely, Castro fled the scene but was apprehended by local residents and handed over to the police. Daniel Ofosuhene was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
