Massive Boost for Youth Employment as 5,000 Young Ghanaians Set to Join Prison Service

In a major breakthrough for youth employment in Ghana, the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to recruit 5,000 young men and women as Prison Service Assistants.

The initiative is a joint effort between the Ghana Prisons Service, YEA, and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment. It is designed to not only tackle youth unemployment but also strengthen national security and prison administration.

The official signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra, drawing attention from key government officials, development partners, and the media.

According to Malik Basintale, this recruitment drive reflects the government’s firm commitment to empowering Ghanaian youth with stable, long-term employment opportunities in the public sector. He described the partnership as a “game-changer” for young people who are ready to serve their country while gaining valuable skills and experience.

Officials from the Ghana Prisons Service expressed optimism that the addition of 5,000 well-trained assistants will ease the burden on existing staff and improve prison operations nationwide.

This employment drive forms part of a broader national strategy to address youth joblessness, reduce social vices, and promote professional growth among young citizens.

The initiative is expected to roll out in the coming months, with clear guidelines on eligibility, application processes, and training schedules to be announced soon.
