Zoomlion Breaks Down YEA Payment Structure Amid Allowance Controversy

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has responded to rising concerns about the low allowances received by sanitation workers under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) program. The company detailed how the monthly GH¢850 allocation is split between beneficiaries and operational costs, shedding light on the long-criticized partnership.
How Much Do YEA Sanitation Workers Really Earn?
Each YEA sanitation worker under the Zoomlion module is allocated GH¢850 per month. Of this:
- GH¢258 goes directly to the worker as a monthly allowance.
- GH¢592 is retained by Zoomlion for supervision, logistics, PPE (personal protective equipment), and administrative expenses.
Why the Payment Structure?

Zoomlion Ghana Limited and YEA
Zoomlion stated that the GH¢592 retained is used to provide:
- Working tools and uniforms
- Supervision and coordination
- Transportation and logistics
- Project administration and monitoring
The company says this setup is aligned with its agreement with the YEA to ensure smooth delivery of sanitation services nationwide.
Backlash and Petition
Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni recently petitioned President John Mahama, questioning the fairness and transparency of the YEA-Zoomlion contract. The petition sparked public outrage, especially given the modest earnings of sanitation workers.
Zoomlion Responds to Transparency Calls
In its defense, Zoomlion emphasized that its contract was awarded through legal channels and is regularly audited. The firm also assured the public of its commitment to providing employment and environmental cleanliness while remaining open to reforms.
Reflections:
As pressure mounts for increased allowances and improved contract transparency, Zoomlion’s response aims to calm public concern and reassure stakeholders. Ghanaians await further action from both Zoomlion and the government on this matter.
