According to reports and eyewitness accounts, the student had gone to visit his girlfriend at GUSSS Hall Two on campus, only to find her in a compromising situation with another man. Overwhelmed by shock and heartbreak, the young man reportedly collapsed at the scene. It is believed that this emotional distress led him to take his own life later.

While some accounts are still being verified, students who knew him described Khon Void as a quiet, reserved individual who had recently been struggling emotionally.

Campus Reactions and Ongoing Investigations

The news of the incident quickly spread across campus and social media, drawing an outpouring of grief and concern from fellow students, alumni, and members of the public. Many have called on university authorities to strengthen psychological support systems for students who may be going through emotional challenges.

The Winneba Police Command has launched an investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Authorities have also advised against the spread of unverified information on social media, asking the public to allow due process.

Mental Health in Focus

This heartbreaking incident has once again brought mental health issues to the forefront, particularly among young people in Ghana’s tertiary institutions. The pressure of academics, relationships, and life transitions often weigh heavily on students—many of whom may not seek help until it’s too late.

Mental health advocates are urging universities to implement proactive mental health education and accessible counseling services. As one UEW lecturer shared anonymously, “We need to normalize seeking help. No one should have to bear emotional burdens alone.”
