Triumphant Black Queens Receive Presidential Praise and Cash Reward After WAFCON Heroics

The victorious Black Queens continued their triumphant return home with a heartwarming visit to the Jubilee House, where they were given a hero’s welcome by President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang.

The jubilant ceremony celebrated Ghana’s senior women’s national football team for their outstanding performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they clinched bronze and won the hearts of millions across the continent. The team was led to the seat of government by CAF 2nd Vice President and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, Minister of Sports and Recreation Hon. Kofi Adams, and other dignitaries.

President Mahama hailed the Black Queens for their discipline, determination, and exceptional representation of Ghana on the African football stage.

“You’ve made the nation proud. The Black Queens have shown what is possible when hard work, vision, and belief come together. This medal is only the beginning. I believe with the right support and structures, the ultimate trophy is within your reach,” he said.

The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, joined in celebrating the Queens, emphasizing their role in inspiring young girls across the country to dream big and pursue excellence in sports.

The government also used the occasion to affirm its renewed commitment to women’s sports development in Ghana. President Mahama hinted at bold policy shifts and increased resource allocation to improve the conditions and welfare of female athletes nationwide.

The visit was marked by emotional exchanges, smiles, and celebrations as the players met and interacted with the nation’s top leadership. In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, the President and Vice President presented a special cash reward to the team.

The Black Queens’ achievements continue to draw national and international acclaim, reaffirming their place as pioneers of women’s football in Ghana and blazing a path for future generations.
