20-bed ward to provide critical services to thousands, strengthening community healthcare infrastructure
Global energy technology company SLB, in partnership with the West African Rescue Association (WARA)—a leading private medical assistance and emergency rescue service in Ghana and West Africa—has established a children’s ward at the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital in Takoradi, Ghana.
The commissioning event, held on April 9, 2025, brought together SLB and WARA representatives, government officials, community leaders, and healthcare professionals to celebrate this milestone in improving pediatric healthcare in the region.
A Commitment to Sustainability and Community Impact
This initiative was supported by investment from the Sustainability Impact Awards, a global program launched by SLB in 2022 to empower local teams to design, select, and support high-impact, scalable, and replicable sustainability projects. WARA acted as medical advisors, while SLB handled the construction and implementation of the 20-bed children’s ward.

She emphasized that this project demonstrates SLB’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access and creating shared value that supports both community health and resilience.
Addressing Pediatric Healthcare Gaps

He noted that this collaboration with SLB will significantly impact pediatric care in the region, helping bridge healthcare gaps and ensure quality care for children.
According to the UN IGME Report 2023, 4.9 million deaths occurred among children under five in 2023—nearly half of them newborns. An additional 2.1 million deaths were recorded among children and youth aged 5–24, with most in sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia. This new ward will provide essential pediatric services, directly addressing such inequalities in survival and health access.
A Broader Healthcare Investment Strategy
Beyond this project, SLB continues to lead transformative healthcare initiatives across Africa. In January 2025, SLB partnered with the ONE Campaign to install solar inverters in ten healthcare centers in Nigeria, ensuring uninterrupted, renewable energy to support critical patient care where electricity remains a challenge.
These efforts are part of SLB’s broader social investment strategy that aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly in improving healthcare infrastructure, community well-being, and resilience.
