Ghana Police have confirmed the killing of four suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of violent robberies in the Adansi areas of the Ashanti Region. The operation, carried out on Sunday, April 6, 2025, marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb rising criminal activity in the region.

Deadly Exchange of Gunfire

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the suspects were gunned down during a high-risk intelligence-led operation. Officers reportedly intercepted the gang as they attempted another attack on a gold dealer. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of the four suspects. No police casualties were recorded.

Preliminary investigations suggest the slain robbers were responsible for a number of deadly armed robberies and assaults on traders, gold dealers, and commuters across Fomena, Obuasi, and New Edubiase. The group had been on the police’s most-wanted list for months.

Weapons and Ammunition Retrieved

Law enforcement recovered a cache of weapons at the scene, including AK-47 rifles, locally manufactured pistols, and dozens of rounds of ammunition. Motorbikes and other items believed to have been used during their previous operations were also confiscated.

The Ghana Police Service has commended residents for volunteering crucial intelligence that led to the operation. They assured the public that efforts to track down other accomplices and similar criminal networks will continue.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander urged communities in the Adansi enclave to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the region.
