Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has officially begun a three-week medical leave today, April 7, 2025, following medical advice from her doctors.

Sources from the Jubilee House confirmed that the medical break comes after she was rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday, March 29, 2025, due to a sudden illness the night before.

After initial treatment at UGMC, medical experts recommended that the Vice President travel abroad to receive further attention.

In a formal statement released on March 30, 2025, the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed that the Vice President had left the country for a scheduled recovery period based on medical guidance.

Strong Denial of False Rumors by Government Officials

Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has debunked widespread rumors alleging that the Vice President was in a critical state. Addressing Ghanaians in Lagos, Nigeria, during a working visit, Ablakwa gave a reassuring update on her condition.

“There have been concerns about the health of our mother, Ghana’s first female Vice President,” Ablakwa said. “I want to assure you that she is doing very, very well. Your prayers from both home and abroad have worked.”

He urged the public to disregard what he described as “vicious and un-Ghanaian evil propaganda,” adding that Vice President Opoku-Agyemang is recovering strongly and remains committed to returning to her duties soon.

Ablakwa emphasized that the Vice President remains an inspiration to young girls and women across the country, saying, “She is going to return to her duties—serving Ghana, making us all proud, and especially inspiring our young girls to know that there is nothing women cannot achieve. Adding his voice to the updates, James Gyakye Quayson, Member of Parliament for Assin North, confirmed in a Facebook post that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is in excellent condition.

“This evening, we received information from a credible source indicating that our esteemed Vice President is in a very good condition,” he wrote. “May God/Allah continue to bless her with good health. We are all relieved by this news and wish her a swift return to her duties, serving the nation with the same dedication and grace she always has.”
