President Trump to Attend FIFA Club World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium
US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will attend the FIFA Club World Cup final this Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The match will see Chelsea take on either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid in what is expected to be a global football spectacle. This tournament marks the first edition of an expanded FIFA Club World Cup format, hosted by the United States, and a build-up to next year’s World Cup, which the US will co-host with Canada and Mexico.
President Trump, who earlier this year became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl, currently chairs a White House taskforce overseeing preparations for both the Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His administration has taken an active role in sporting events, and his presence at Sunday’s final continues his engagement with global sports diplomacy.
FIFA Opens Trump Tower Office Amid Strengthened Ties with US Government
In a symbolic move that further aligns FIFA with the US government, world football’s governing body has opened a new office in Trump Tower, New York. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the decision reflects the support the organisation has received from the US administration. FIFA already operates from its Miami base, but the New York office aims to deepen coordination and local operations as the country prepares for a major sporting calendar.
“We have received such a big support from the government and from the president with the White House taskforce for the FIFA Club World Cup and for the FIFA World Cup next year,” Infantino said. “FIFA is a global organisation and to be global you have to be local, you have to be everywhere, so we have to be in New York.”
Infantino also addressed concerns about the US immigration stance, assuring that fans from around the world would be welcomed despite Trump’s tightened immigration policies and a current travel ban on 12 countries. Reports suggest Trump is considering expanding these restrictions to as many as 36 more nations. Nevertheless, Trump continues to show strong interest in major sports. In addition to the Club World Cup final, he has confirmed that Washington DC will host the 2027 NFL Draft and has attended multiple UFC events, including one in New Jersey last month. He also announced that the White House will host a UFC event next year.
