President Mahama Directs Appointees to Donate One-Month Salary to MahamaCares Medical Fund

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed all political appointees within his administration to contribute one month’s salary to the newly established MahamaCares Medical Fund. This initiative, announced on May 5, 2025, aims to support Ghanaians in need of emergency medical care.

Objective of the MahamaCares Medical Fund

The MahamaCares Medical Fund is designed to provide financial assistance for emergency surgeries, life-saving medications, and treatments not covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Priority will be given to vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.

Asset Declaration Compliance and Additional Sanctions

In addition to the salary donation, President Mahama has mandated that appointees who failed to declare their assets by the March 31, 2025 deadline forfeit an additional three months’ salary, totaling four months’ salary to be donated to the fund. Appointees have until the end of May 6, 2025, to comply, or face automatic dismissal.

Public Participation and Transparency

The MahamaCares Medical Fund is open to public donations. President Mahama emphasized that this initiative is a demonstration of leadership and public accountability, aiming to restore trust in public office. All contributions will be managed through official channels to ensure transparency.
