In a significant move towards fulfilling his promises and supporting healthcare professionals, the Ghanaian government, under the leadership of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has approved a substantial allocation of GH¢177 million to address the longstanding issue of unpaid allowances for trainee nurses across the nation.

During a recent gathering with nurses and midwives in Accra, Dr. Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections, made the announcement, reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to meeting its obligations to the healthcare sector. The funds, sanctioned by the Ministry of Finance, are aimed at clearing all outstanding debts owed to trainee nurses by the end of the week, ensuring that these dedicated professionals should receive the support they deserve.

The Vice President’s assurance of timely disbursement was met with optimism and relief among the nursing community, especially in light of recent concerns raised by a final-year nursing student during a campaign event in the Bono Region. Dr. Bawumia promptly pledged to address the issue with the Ministry of Finance, underscoring the government’s proactive stance in resolving challenges faced by healthcare trainees.

As part of the government’s holistic approach to healthcare, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the upcoming agenda 111 state-of-the-art facilities , which aim to enhance healthcare infrastructure across the country.
