2.1million Ghanaians didn’t vote for NPP because of Bawumia – Owusu Bempah claims

Ernest Owusu-Bempah, the Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made a bold claim that 2.1 million Ghanaians—mostly from the NPP base—refused to vote in the 2024 general election due to dissatisfaction with the party’s choice of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer.
In a candid interview on Oyerpa TV, Owusu-Bempah stated that the decision to present Dr. Bawumia alienated many grassroots supporters who felt disconnected from the party’s direction.
“For the first time, I met a taxi driver who is a member of NPP who told me he voted for the NDC. He showed me his party card and said we didn’t present the right candidate. God is my witness, it is not a joke,” he stated.

He continued, “2.1 million people refused to vote. Do you know what that means? Go down there with a hidden camera and ask the ordinary people why they refused to vote.”
Grassroots Discontent and Leadership Criticism
Owusu-Bempah noted that during a visit to New York, he was nearly heckled by members of the Ghanaian community who expressed disappointment over the NPP’s inability to heed their advice.
“They say when they advise us we don’t listen. They want Kennedy Agyapong and promised to vote if he leads the party,” he claimed.
He emphasized that his sentiments reflect the general mood of NPP supporters and are not merely personal opinions.

Future of NPP Lies with Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong
In separate Facebook posts on April 7, 2025, Owusu-Bempah declared that Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central, and Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi, represent the future of the NPP.
“Future of NPP depends on these two guys ……….Prophetic !!!!!!! Ala AFA the voice of the People …….”
“Hope IS COMING !!!!!!…..Eshie Rado Rado ….change is coming!!!”
He urged party members to await the findings of the Prof. Mike Oquaye-led committee, which is expected to release a report detailing the reasons behind the party’s 2024 electoral performance.
