Security operatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), in collaboration with National Security, reportedly stormed the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, on Thursday, May 23, 2025. The incident took place in the Ashanti Region, where the influential politician serves as the regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to eyewitness accounts and emerging reports, the security team sought to effect the arrest of the outspoken party figure. Though the exact reason for the attempted arrest remains unclear, sources suggest it may be linked to recent allegations of political misconduct and tensions within the party’s regional structures.

Residents in the area were left in shock as plainclothes and uniformed officers surrounded the premises, raising questions about the urgency and legality of the operation. Videos circulated on social media showed a visibly tense atmosphere, with some party loyalists attempting to intervene.
