A Chief State Attorney at the Office of the Attorney-General, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, has been permanently banned from practicing law in Ghana by the General Legal Council (GLC) due to his acceptance of GH¢400,000 from businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome in 2011.

This decision means that Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh can no longer work as a lawyer in the country. The Disciplinary Committee of the General legal Council found him guilty of professional misconduct under Rule 2(2) of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, 1969 (L.I. 613).

According to the General Legal Council, while representing the state in a case against Woyome in 2011, Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh arranged for GH¢400,000 to be transferred from Woyome directly into his wife’s bank account. The General Legal Council noted that Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh failed to provide a reasonable explanation for this transfer.

The GLC stated that Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh’s actions had tarnished the reputation of the legal profession. As a result, he is prohibited from presenting himself as a lawyer, operating a law office, or offering legal services to the public. The notice was signed by the Judicial Secretary, Justice Cynthia Pamela Koranteng.
