Tensions Rise as Minority Staged Walkout Over Swearing-In of Ewurabena Aubynn

Parliament witnessed heightened political tension on Tuesday when the Minority staged a dramatic walkout ahead of the swearing-in of Ewurabena Aubynn, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North.
The walkout was triggered by a request from Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who sought to address the House before the oath of office was administered. After successfully catching the Speaker’s attention, Annoh-Dompreh attempted to raise a formal concern.
However, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga opposed the move, insisting that any grievances could be addressed after the swearing-in ceremony. Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin ruled in favor of the Majority Leader, stating that the Minority would be allowed to speak following the formal induction.
Unhappy with the ruling, Annoh-Dompreh declared, “Mr. Speaker, we cannot be part of this swearing-in,” before leading the Minority MPs out of the chamber in protest.
Despite the walkout, the ceremony proceeded without disruption, and Ewurabena Aubynn was officially sworn in as the new representative for the Ablekuma North Constituency.
This latest development highlights growing tensions within Parliament and sets a confrontational tone for upcoming sessions.
