Mahama Slams Trump Over Treatment of South Africa’s President

President John Dramani Mahama, has strongly condemned U.S. President Donald Trump for what he described as disrespectful and racially insensitive treatment of South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa. In a strongly worded opinion piece, Mahama criticized Trump’s recent posture and comments that appeared to undermine Ramaphosa’s leadership and South Africa’s land reform efforts.
A Stand Against Disrespect to African Leaders
Mahama accused Trump of reviving apartheid-era narratives that vilify African governance and distort historical realities. “It is disheartening that in today’s global landscape, African leaders are still subjected to such demeaning rhetoric from leaders of major global powers,” Mahama wrote.
He added that Ramaphosa, a key figure in South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy, deserves global respect, not ridicule. Mahama emphasized that Africa’s leaders must be treated as equals on the world stage and not as subordinates to Western powers.

Trump had previously made controversial remarks about land redistribution in South Africa, alleging that white farmers were being unfairly targeted. Mahama countered these claims, calling them misleading and rooted in a distorted understanding of post-apartheid restitution efforts.
Mahama’s article has sparked conversation across the continent, with many applauding his courage to speak against neocolonial attitudes and advocate for the dignity of African leadership.
