Kalsoume Sinare Appointed Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain by President Mahama
Veteran Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe has been appointed Ghana’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, according to a statement signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to President John Dramani Mahama. The appointment, announced on June 21, 2025, forms part of a list of 15 new diplomatic nominations, including ambassadors, high commissioners, and a consul-general designate.
From Silver Screen to Diplomatic Stage
Sinare, 58, is one of Ghana’s most celebrated actresses, known for her iconic roles in Out of Sight, Crossfire, Ties That Bind, and Trinity. With a career spanning over three decades, her influence extends beyond the screen into advocacy and public service.
Her academic qualifications include a Diploma in Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana and a Master’s in International Relations and Diplomacy from GIMPA, where she also earned her first degree in Public Service and Governance in 2021.
Over the years, Sinare has received numerous accolades, including honours at the Ghana Movie Awards and a lifetime recognition at the 2021 Golden Movie Awards Africa.
A Strategic Appointment
Sinare’s appointment comes as Ghana looks to strengthen economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties with Spain, particularly in areas such as trade, tourism, renewable energy, and migration management.
President Mahama’s latest diplomatic picks reflect a blend of experience in politics, academia, business, and the arts. Other key appointees include:
- Benjamin A. Quashie, a businessman, as High Commissioner to South Africa
- Kojo Bonsu, former Kumasi Mayor, as Ambassador to China
- Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, former KNUST Vice-Chancellor, as Ambassador to India
All nominees are expected to undergo vetting and parliamentary approval before assuming their duties.
