I will contest for the NPP’s National Chairman – Wontumi officially announce

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially announced his intention to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the NPP.

Claims Divine Endorsement for His Ambition

According to Chairman Wontumi, his decision was inspired by a spiritual encounter. Speaking on his own Wontumi TV station, he stated that he consulted God before making the move and believes his leadership will help the NPP reclaim power in 2028.

“I have spoken to God and I have pleaded with him… when it is time for Chairman Wontumi, the NPP is an elephant when it’s time I will pick form in serving with respect to serve the NPP for us to return to power in 2028,” he said. He added confidently, “So I will say yes, I will contest for the NPP National Chairman when the time comes.”

Denies Involvement in Galamsey Allegations

Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi has also been in the news defending himself against allegations linking him to illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey. He firmly denied any involvement, insisting that he operates within the law.

“When they (NDC) came they were talking about galamsey now they want to frame me with galamsey, which is not the truth. Chairman Wontumi I don’t do galamsey, Chairman Wontumi I will never do galamsey,” he declared. He accused the Lands Minister of spreading falsehoods and emphasized that he holds a legitimate mining lease.

Legal Battle Over Akonta Mining Lease Revocation

His comments come amid a legal dispute. The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, recently ordered the Minerals Commission to revoke the lease of Wontumi’s Akonta Mining Company Limited. In response, Wontumi’s company has filed a lawsuit challenging the revocation and defending the legitimacy of its operations.
