In recent discussions surrounding the potential taxation of churches, He, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has provided clarification on his stance. Contrary to some interpretations, his comments were not a proposal for taxing churches but rather an endorsement of incentivizing them for greater involvement in developmental projects.

During a meeting with clergy members in the Bono region, He emphasized the pivotal role churches play in national development. He expressed belief in their capacity to collaborate with the government in driving progress across the country.

Acknowledging the significant contributions of churches to various sectors, including education and healthcare infrastructure, He underscored the importance of their continued partnership with the state.

Following reactions to his initial remarks, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia clarified that his statement was made in a light-hearted manner and had been misconstrued. He highlighted the essential services provided by churches, such as building schools, hospitals, and caring for the needy, emphasizing their indispensable role in Ghanaian society.

Addressing clergy members in the North East Region, He reiterated that his comments were not advocating for church payments but rather proposing incentives to encourage further contributions to national development.

By clarifying his stance, He aims to emphasize the importance of fostering collaborative partnerships between the government and churches to enhance socioeconomic progress in Ghana.
