Hawa Koomson declares intention to contest as NPP National Women’s Organiser after MP loss

Former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya EastMavis Hawa Koomson, has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections.

A Redirection, Not a Defeat

Speaking to party supporters during a thank-you tour following her loss in the 2024 parliamentary race, Hawa Koomson emphasized that setbacks should be seen as opportunities for redirection and growth.

Drawing inspiration from the Biblical story of Joseph, she said:

“When Joseph in the Bible was sold by his brothers, they thought they were doing him harm, but they were actually preparing him for greatness.”

She added that losing her parliamentary seat has inspired her to continue serving the party in a new capacity at the national level.

Experience and Commitment to Party Work

Hawa Koomson highlighted her past roles in the party, including serving as a constituency women’s organiser, stating that she possesses both the experience and competence to lead at the national level.

“A lot of people have called on me to contest… I will contest. Pray for me, and just as I made you proud here, I will do the same if given the opportunity at the national level,” she said.

Call for Unity and Party Strength

Encouraging party unity, Hawa Koomson urged members to come together and work for the NPP’s growth and success.

“Let us come together and work for the NPP so the party can become stronger.”

She acknowledged that many party members had already heard rumors of her ambition, and used the platform to officially confirm her decision to contest for the National Women’s Organiser position.
