A robbery attempt in the Ashanti Region ended in tragedy after a police officer and another suspected criminal were shot dead during a gun battle with law enforcement. The incident, reported by InsighGH on Sunday, has left residents in Kumasi stunned over the involvement of an off-duty officer in the foiled heist.

Robbery Attempt Along Secluded Road

The robbery occurred late Saturday night on the outskirts of Kumasi. According to police sources, the suspects attempted to rob a passenger vehicle traveling along a secluded stretch of road. The alertness of the driver, who noticed suspicious activity ahead, prompted a call to a nearby police patrol team.

Local leaders and residents have since called for enhanced security measures and internal reform within the police service.

“This incident is a reminder that we need to strengthen our systems,” a community elder said. “It’s disturbing to think that those sworn to protect us could be involved in such activities.”

The event adds to ongoing conversations around corruption and discipline within Ghana’s security services, and the need to restore public trust.
