Photos, videos: Fire ravages shops at Adum Market in Kumasi

A devastating fire broke out at the Adum Market in Kumasi’s Central Business District in the early hours of Friday, March 21, destroying several shops and properties.

Fire Rapidly Spreads, Causing Heavy Losses
The fire, which spread rapidly due to highly flammable materials in many of the shops, has left business owners counting huge losses. The affected area of the market is known for selling second-hand clothes, and housing seamstresses and watch repairers.

Firefighters Face Major Challenges
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) immediately dispatched six fire trucks to combat the blaze. However, accessing the burning area proved difficult due to the market’s congestion and narrow pathways. Firefighters had to maneuver through tight spaces to bring the fire under control.

Investigation Underway
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, affected traders are urging the government and relevant agencies for support and intervention.
