Binduri, a community in Ghana’s Upper East Region, was rocked by violence on Sunday, April 6, 2025, following a fatal gun attack that claimed the life of a local resident. Security sources have confirmed the incident, which has left residents fearful and regional authorities on high alert.

Details of the Fatal Shooting

According to initial reports from security personnel, the victim—believed to be a farmer—was ambushed and shot at close range by unidentified gunmen. The attack occurred around dusk in a quiet part of the town. The assailants fled the scene immediately, prompting a swift but ongoing police response.

The victim’s body has been deposited at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital morgue pending autopsy. Authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased until the family has been officially notified.

“We urge all residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. Anyone with credible information is encouraged to assist the police by reporting through the official hotlines,” a police spokesperson stated.

District Security Council to Convene

The Binduri District Security Council (DISEC) has scheduled an emergency meeting to assess the situation and implement swift peacekeeping measures. Officials are also working closely with traditional leaders and civil society actors to promote calm and prevent the violence from escalating.

A Call for National Attention

Security analysts are warning that the incident may be a symptom of larger unresolved tensions in the Upper East corridor. They are calling on the central government to intensify long-term peacebuilding efforts in the region, particularly in vulnerable border communities like Binduri.
