The Binduri area, known for its proximity to the conflict-prone Bawku municipality, has witnessed sporadic acts of violence in recent years. This latest attack has heightened anxiety among residents, some of whom fear it may trigger retaliatory assaults or signal a fresh wave of insecurity.

Community members are calling for increased police and military patrols, as well as immediate intervention by national security operatives to forestall further bloodshed.

Police Launch Investigations, Urge Calm

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits. Security has been beefed up in the town, with patrols intensified and intelligence-gathering activities ongoing.

“We urge all residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. Anyone with credible information is encouraged to assist the police by reporting through the official hotlines,” a police spokesperson stated.

District Security Council to Convene

The Binduri District Security Council (DISEC) has scheduled an emergency meeting to assess the situation and implement swift peacekeeping measures. Officials are also working closely with traditional leaders and civil society actors to promote calm and prevent the violence from escalating.

A Call for National Attention

Security analysts are warning that the incident may be a symptom of larger unresolved tensions in the Upper East corridor. They are calling on the central government to intensify long-term peacebuilding efforts in the region, particularly in vulnerable border communities like Binduri.
