Fatal accident kills 5 on Akropong-Dabaa road

In a devastating incident on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, a vehicle lost control and plunged into the Owabi River along the Akropong-Dabaa road, resulting in the deaths of five occupants, including a mother and her child.

The tragic accident occurred as the mother was driving her children to school, with neighbors joining for convenience.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, traveling from Dabaa to Akropong, veered off the main road, overturned, and ultimately crashed into the river.

The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old seamstress Helena, 28-year-old plumber Boamah Gyasi Eric, 10-year-old pupil Lordina Yasan, and 41-year-old teacher Rita Agyare.

Rescue Efforts and Community Response

Local divers and community members quickly responded, conducting rescue efforts and performing traditional rituals at the scene to honor the deceased.

Despite their efforts, the five lives were lost, leaving the community in deep mourning. The bodies have been transferred to the Mount Sinai morgue, where family members and friends are grieving the sudden and tragic loss.

Officials from the Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, Presiding Member, Elders of the Community and some community members among others carried out the rescue mission.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. They have advised drivers to exercise extreme caution along the narrow, winding roads in the area.

The Presiding Member of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly, Francis Bobie Ansah, addressed the media, urging for improved road safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the community mourns the loss of five lives, there is a renewed call for stringent safety measures to protect travelers and prevent such tragedies in the future.
