Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah has finally expressed interest in representing Ghana, years after turning down opportunities and hoping for a full England call-up.

The 25-year-old forward, born in Lewisham to Ghanaian parents, has been a long-term target for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which has made multiple attempts to secure his commitment to the Black Stars.

Nketiah, who came through the Arsenal youth ranks before moving to Crystal Palace, has represented England at every youth level and received a senior team call-up in 2023 for matches against Scotland and Ukraine. However, he was not included in the final matchday squads and has not been called up since.

In a recent interview on The Beautiful Game podcast, Nketiah hinted at a change of heart:

“When I was younger, representing England was an option after progressing through the youth system. But if Ghana invites me, then I’ll be there.”

A Turning Point

Nketiah’s remarks mark a significant shift and could end years of speculation surrounding his international future. Despite a relatively quiet season at Crystal Palace—with just one goal and one assist in 25 appearances—the striker remains a player of considerable promise.

His potential switch could also offer a fresh start and renewed motivation at the international level. With Ghana seeking to strengthen its attacking options ahead of key international fixtures and a possible fifth World Cup appearance, Nketiah’s decision could provide a welcome boost.

While the GFA has not formally responded to his latest comments, optimism is growing among fans that Nketiah may finally don the Black Stars jersey.
