Dampare allegedly paid dollars to top officials at Jubilee House to keep his position – Paul Adom- Otchere

Renowned journalist Paul Adom-Otchere has alleged that former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, paid thousands of dollars to two top officials at Jubilee House in a last-minute bid to retain his position.
Speaking on his Good Evening Ghana show on March 13, 2025, Adom-Otchere claimed that a man named Listowellconfronted these officials over the alleged bribe, questioning why they accepted the money despite knowing Dampare was set to be dismissed.
“So, there is a guy called Listowell who went to Jubilee House and asked why high-profile officials were allegedly receiving presents from Akuffo Dampare just 72 hours before his dismissal,” Adom-Otchere stated.
Mystery Surrounding the Alleged Bribe
Adom-Otchere refused to disclose the names of the alleged recipients but claimed that two high-ranking government officials received large sums of money from Dampare in a desperate attempt to save his job.

He further questioned the source of the funds, saying:
“Where is Dr. Dampare getting the money from? Two high-profile officials at Jubilee House have allegedly received thousands of dollars from him in an attempt to secure his position.”
Dampare Sacked – New IGP Appointed
On March 13, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama officially relieved Dr. Dampare of his duties as IGP and appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as his replacement.

A statement issued by the Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed that the appointment was made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State.
“COP Yohuno brings forty years of experience to the position of IGP and is expected to oversee the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service,” the statement read.

Public Reactions and Political Fallout
The allegations have sparked heated debates about corruption, police leadership, and political interference. If proven true, these claims could raise serious concerns about bribery within Ghana’s top government circles.
As the controversy unfolds, many Ghanaians await further evidence to support Adom-Otchere’s claims and more details on the circumstances surrounding Dampare’s dismissal.
