You are president so you’re treating me like I’m not a Ghanaian- Chairman Wontumi tells President Mahama

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has broken his silence following his arrest earlier today, blaming President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as political persecution.
In a fiery statement made on his privately-owned Wontumi Radio, the outspoken politician claimed that his arrest was politically motivated and orchestrated at the behest of the President.

“John Mahama is using the power Ghanaians gave him not for unity, but to intimidate political opponents,” Chairman Wontumi stated. “Today, he treated me like I’m not a Ghanaian. Is that the change Ghanaians voted for?”
While the specific reason for his arrest has yet to be officially confirmed by the Ghana Police Service, the incident has sparked widespread commentary online, with the hashtag #FreeWontumi trending across several social media platforms.

Wontumi, a prominent and controversial political figure in the Ashanti Region, further called on members of the NPP and the wider public to resist what he described as “tyranny.”
“I’m urging all Ghanaians, especially NPP supporters, not to sit aloof. We must act as citizens and not spectators. Justice must prevail,” he said.

This development adds to mounting political tension, as the Mahama administration faces growing scrutiny from opposition leaders who accuse the government of targeting its critics and loyalists of the previous administration.
Neither the presidency nor the Ministry of Information has yet issued an official response to Chairman Wontumi’s allegations.
