Minority in Parliament Lavishes Black Queens with GH¢100k for WAFCON Heroics

In a heartwarming show of appreciation, the Minority in Ghana’s Parliament has made a generous donation of GH¢100,000 to the Black Queens following their stellar performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

During a brief but emotional presentation ceremony at Parliament House in Accra, Minority Leader Hon. Afenyo Markins, flanked by several Members of Parliament, lauded the national women’s football team for their courage, tenacity, and national pride. The Black Queens recently clinched the bronze medal after a dramatic penalty shootout win over South Africa, rekindling excitement and hope in Ghanaian women’s football.

“The Black Queens have not only carried Ghana’s flag high on the continental stage but have reignited the nation’s belief in the power of women’s sports. This token is our way of expressing deep gratitude for the inspiration you’ve given to every Ghanaian,” Hon. Afenyo stated during the event.

Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, who led the presentation on behalf of the Minority Caucus, emphasized the importance of sustained support and equal investment in women’s sports. She urged both government and private stakeholders to commit to long-term funding that empowers female athletes and strengthens Ghana’s representation in global sports.

The GH¢100,000 cash donation, which covers both the players and technical staff, marks a significant gesture toward acknowledging the impact of the team’s achievements not just in football, but in the broader narrative of gender equality and national pride.
