Black Queens Secure Quarterfinal Spot with Dominant Win over Tanzania

The Black Queens are through to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a commanding 4–1 victory over Tanzania in their final Group C fixture. The match, played at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, showcased Ghana’s determination and clinical finishing as the team bounced back from an opening loss to South Africa and a narrow win against Mali.

Key goals came from Doris Boaduwaa, Grace Asantewaa, and Princella Adubea, while the team’s overall cohesion, pressing, and sharp attacking play left little room for Tanzania to recover. Though Tanzania managed a late consolation goal, the Black Queens stayed firmly in control, ending the group stage with six points and placing second behind South Africa.

This win sets the stage for a crucial quarterfinal clash with Algeria, the winners of Group B, who progressed with an unbeaten record. Ghana’s impressive return to form has reignited hopes of reaching the semifinals for the first time since 2016, and confidence is growing within the camp. The knockout match is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 17:00 GMT, again at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane.
