Former Chelsea and current PAOK left-back, Abdul Baba Rahman, has made a surprise return to the Ghana Black Stars camp ahead of their highly anticipated Unity Cup clash against arch-rivals Nigeria on Wednesday.

Baba

The 30-year-old defender, who last featured for Ghana in September 2023 during an AFCON qualifier against the Central African Republic, had previously opted out of national duties following intense fan criticism at the Baba Yara Stadium.

However, in a turn of events that has stirred excitement among fans, Rahman was seen in a viral video on social mediasharing a meal with teammates Lawrence Ati Zigi and Gideon Mensah at the team’s hotel in London.

While the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to officially release the squad list for the Unity Cup, player arrivals suggest that preparations are in full swing.

Stellar Season in Greece

Baba Rahman’s inclusion comes on the back of a strong season at PAOK, where he has made 23 league appearances, netting 5 goals and providing 2 assists—a remarkable output for a defender.

His form and experience could prove crucial for Ghana, as they face a formidable Nigerian side in what promises to be an emotionally charged encounter.

Rahman’s return signals a possible redemption arc and a renewed commitment to the national team, despite past tensions with a section of the fanbase.

Baba

His presence adds depth to Ghana’s defensive options and could be pivotal as the team seeks unity and momentum ahead of future competitive fixtures.

Fans will now be keenly watching to see if the former Asante Kotoko star will be handed a start or come off the bench during Wednesday’s fixture.
