Passion Air announces significant flight disruptions over fuel shortage
Domestic airline Passion Air has issued a critical announcement warning of major disruptions across all its flight routes due to an anticipated aviation fuel shortage (Jet A-1) at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
In a press statement released on July 23, Passion Air confirmed receiving official notification from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) regarding the fuel crisis. The GCAA had earlier issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) on July 22, alerting all aviation stakeholders about the expected Jet A-1 shortage from July 22 to July 27, 2025.
“As a result, we expect significant disruptions to our flight operations across all routes during this period,” the airline said.
Passion Air is urging all passengers and stakeholders to reach out to its customer service center at 0800 221 221 for the latest flight updates, rescheduling support, and other assistance. The airline also apologized sincerely for the inconvenience, emphasizing that the situation is beyond its control.
What’s Behind the Aviation Fuel Crisis?
Jet A-1 fuel is a specialized form of kerosene vital for operating turbine-powered aircraft. The current shortage in Ghana may be due to a combination of global supply chain disruptions, local logistical challenges, refinery limitations, or foreign exchange issues affecting import payments.
Such disruptions can have widespread effects on air travel from delayed or canceled flights to forced diversions all of which result in major inconvenience for passengers and economic losses for airlines.
