Seven companies have been shortlisted to partner with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in the development of the proposed Keta Port in the Volta Region.

President John Dramani Mahama announced this at the 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival on Saturday, November 7, revealing that the companies were selected from 47 firms that expressed interest in becoming strategic partners for the project.

According to the President, the selection followed a due diligence exercise, with the seven shortlisted companies expected to proceed to the next stage of the process.

He explained that the next phase would involve finalising the project designs and securing the necessary financing to pave the way for construction.

“Your Majesty, to update you on the status of the port, I’m pleased to announce that 47 companies submitted expressions of interest in partnering with Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority as the strategic partners for the port’s development. Due diligence has been conducted, and this has been shortlisted to seven companies,” he said.

President Mahama also disclosed that construction of the port’s administration block, which commenced under the previous administration, is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the Keta Port project, which is expected to boost economic activities and create employment opportunities for communities in the Volta Region.
