According to the statement, the meeting is intended to “engage in constructive dialogue towards an amicable resolution of the ongoing strike action.”

The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement.

It urged all parties to approach the meeting in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, considering the impact of the industrial action on students, university communities and the broader national interest.

The statement further urged GAUA’s leadership to seize the opportunity for meaningful engagement and work with relevant stakeholders towards an early resolution of the impasse.

The government expressed hope that the meeting would produce a positive outcome and facilitate a swift return to normal academic and administrative activities across affected tertiary institutions.

Meanwhile, the ongoing strike has forced the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Ghana (UG) to postpone their reopening dates. Both institutions are expected to announce new dates in due course.
