Severe flooding has struck parts of Hohoe in the Volta Region after several hours of heavy rainfall, leaving hundreds of homes and businesses inundated and displacing thousands of residents.
Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, raised concerns over the situation in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, urging immediate support for communities affected by the disaster.
According to the legislator, close to the entire Hohoe Zongo area and several sections of the municipality were submerged after nearly nine hours of continuous rainfall.
He explained that the situation worsened when the Dayi River overflowed its banks, causing floodwaters to enter homes and shops across the area.
Mr Dafeamekpor appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to swiftly intervene and provide relief to residents affected by the floods.
“We are calling on NADMO to rush to the aid of the flood victims after the river Dayi overflowed its banks and flooded homes and shops,” he said.
The MP also appealed to businesses and other organisations to contribute towards relief efforts for those displaced by the disaster.
“We are also appealing to Corporate Ghana to assist us to settle the over 3000 flood victims with over 440 houses completely under or in water,” he added.
He indicated that more than 3,000 people have been impacted by the floods, while over 440 houses have either been fully submerged or surrounded by water.
The scale of the flooding has heightened concerns over the need for urgent rescue operations, temporary accommodation, food, clean water and other essential relief supplies for affected residents.
