Ghana and Canada have discussed emerging security threats and the need for stronger international cooperation to address challenges that increasingly extend beyond national borders.
The discussions took place when the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration in peace and security.
Mubarak stressed that the changing nature of security threats requires countries to work together rather than attempt to address such Please allenges independently.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its security partnership with Canada, saying the Ministry of the Interior was ready to engage its Canadian counterparts on initiatives aimed at enhancing the country’s security architecture.
The meeting also focused on Canada’s experience in peace and security, including the role of the Canada Border Services Agency in border management and intelligence.
Both sides also highlighted existing cooperation between Canadian counterparts and Ghanaian security institutions, including the Ghana Police Service, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Ghana Immigration Service and other security agencies.
Ghana and Canada agreed to build on their existing engagements and explore practical areas for deeper cooperation to strengthen security and address emerging threats.
