Moliy makes history as first Ghanaian to win at Caribbean music awards

lGhanaian singer Moliy has etched her name in history after becoming the first Ghanaian artiste to win an award at the Caribbean Music Awards.

The singer, whose full name is Moliy Ama Montgomery, won the Dancehall Song of the Year category at the 2026 edition of the awards with her hit song, “Shake It to the Max (Fly) Remix,” featuring Jamaican artistes Shenseea and Skillibeng.

She received the award on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the fourth Caribbean Music Awards ceremony held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

The 2026 ceremony was significant as it marked the first time the Caribbean Music Awards were staged in the Caribbean, after the previous editions were held in Brooklyn, New York.

Produced by Silent Addy, “Shake It to the Max (Fly) Remix” entered the ceremony as the most-nominated song, securing three nominations across various categories.

The remix, released in February 2025, quickly gained international attention, attracting audiences across the Caribbean, Africa, the United States and the United Kingdom. It also made appearances on major international charts, including the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart and the UK Singles Chart.

The song reached another milestone in February 2026 when it earned a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), having surpassed 500,000 units in the United States.

“Shake It to the Max (Fly)” was initially released in December 2024 as a collaboration between Moliy and producer Silent Addy. Its popularity surged after a dance challenge associated with the song went viral on TikTok, eventually leading to the creation of the remix featuring Shenseea and Skillibeng.

Caribbean

The track has also recorded success on the Ghanaian music awards circuit, winning the Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year award at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Moliy’s latest achievement adds to her growing international profile and underscores the expanding global influence of Ghanaian music, particularly at the intersection of Afrobeats and dancehall.
