Bawumia pays courtesy call on Asantehemaa, seeks blessings ahead of 2028 presidential bid

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid a courtesy call to the Queen of the Asante, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The visit took place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, as part of Dr Bawumia’s engagement with traditional leaders ahead of the 2028 general election.

Dr Bawumia used the occasion to congratulate Nana Yaa Akyaa II on her enstoolment and formally pay his respects to the newly installed Asantehemaa.

During the meeting, the former Vice President also sought the blessings of Nana Yaa Akya II as he pursues his vision of becoming President of Ghana.

Nana Yaa Akyaa II received Dr Bawumia and members of his delegation at the Manhyia Palace.

Dr Bawumia was accompanied by several leading members and supporters of the NPP during the visit.

The engagement formed part of the NPP flagbearer’s broader interactions with traditional authorities and other key stakeholders as he continues preparations towards the 2028 presidential election.
