UDS reach African Universities Championship final, set for title defence

Defending champions University for Development Studies (UDS) have advanced to the final of the 12th All Africa University Games football competition after defeating Delta University in the semi-final in Cairo, Egypt.

The Ghanaian side delivered another impressive performance to secure a place in the championship decider and keep their hopes of retaining the continental title alive.

UDS dominated proceedings from the start and took a 1-0 lead into the half-time break, putting themselves in a favourable position ahead of the second half.

Captain Mohammed Asigri increased the advantage just two minutes after the restart, giving the defending champions greater control of the contest.

UDS continued to dictate the game as Delta University struggled to cope with the Ghanaian side’s attacking pressure. The champions went on to score two more goals to complete a convincing victory.

Abdul Majeed Suglo put the finishing touch to the win by scoring in injury time, sealing UDS’ passage to the final.

The victory keeps UDS on course to defend the title they won at the previous edition in Lagos, Nigeria, as they seek back-to-back African Universities Championship triumphs.

UDS will face Universite Julius Nyerere de Kankan of Guinea in the final, with the Ghanaian side now one victory away from retaining their continental crown.
