Hearts of Oak brought Bibiani Gold Stars’ impressive home unbeaten run to an end, while Asante Kotoko secured their first victory and FC Samartex 1996 continued their winning start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
Week 2 of the campaign delivered plenty of excitement, including comeback victories, late goals and a major upset at Duns Park, as teams continued their push for an early advantage in the standings.
Hearts of Oak made it two wins from two matches after recovering from a goal down to beat Gold Stars 2-1, while Kotoko overcame Heart of Lions by the same scoreline at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Samartex also maintained their perfect start after scoring deep into added time to beat Aduana Stars away from home.
Hearts of Oak stun Gold Stars at Duns Park
Hearts of Oak climbed to the top of the league standings after staging a second-half comeback to defeat Bibiani Gold Stars 2-1 at Duns Park.
Gold Stars started strongly and went ahead in the 10th minute through veteran forward Kwame Opoku.
The Phobians gradually grew into the match and created several opportunities as they pushed for an equaliser.
Their breakthrough came after the interval when Yaw Baafi calmly found the back of the net following good work from Kwaku Boateng Henry.
Five minutes later, the two combined once again to complete the turnaround. This time, Baafi provided the assist for Boateng Henry, who fired Hearts into the lead.
Gold Stars pressed hard for a late equaliser and were handed a penalty, but Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare came up with a decisive save from the spot to protect his side’s advantage.
The win took Hearts to six points from two games after their 4-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea on the opening day.
The result also brought Gold Stars’ 19-game unbeaten home record at Duns Park to an end.
Kotoko claim first victory of the campaign
Asante Kotoko picked up their first three points of the season with a 2-1 win over Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors took the lead in the 27th minute when Emmanuel Mamah applied the finishing touch to a dangerous low cross from Patrick Asiedu.
Kotoko doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute after Mamah turned provider, setting up Isaac Opoku Agyemang for an easy finish.
Heart of Lions, however, reduced the deficit late in the game when Francis Odoom converted from the penalty spot.
The closing stages became even more challenging for Kotoko after Hamaid Fuseini received a straight red card, reducing the home side to 10 men.
Despite the pressure, Kotoko held on to secure a crucial first win of their 2026/27 campaign.
Samartex strike late to sink Aduana Stars
FC Samartex 1996 continued their impressive start to the season after snatching a dramatic 1-0 victory over Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa.
The match looked set to finish without a goal until Ebenezer Okrah struck in the fifth minute of added time.
Samartex took advantage of a mistake by the Aduana goalkeeper to score the winning goal and secure another valuable three points on the road.
The Timber Giants now have six points from their opening two matches, having started the campaign with a 3-1 victory over Karela United.
Their latest success also improved their record in Dormaa, where they now have three wins and two draws from five Premier League visits.
