A 35-year-old mason, Charles Seddoh, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for repeatedly defiling his two daughters at Oyibi in Accra.
Seddoh was convicted by the Circuit Court at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police Headquarters after being found guilty on five counts of defilement and incest.
The court, presided over by Annette Sophia Essel, also ordered that the two victims receive clinical therapy from a psychologist to help them cope with the trauma resulting from the offences.
The court further directed the Police to arrange shelter for the victims.
Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, who led the prosecution, told the court that the first victim, now 18, was Seddoh’s eldest daughter and lived with her younger sister, who is 15 and was also a victim.
According to the prosecution, Mason Seddoh began sexually abusing his first daughter in 2018 when she was 14 years old, and the abuse continued for about seven years.
He allegedly began abusing the second victim in 2021 when she was 11.
The prosecution said Seddoh subjected the girls to physical and emotional abuse whenever they resisted his advances. He allegedly beat them, withheld food and threatened to withdraw financial support, including assistance with their education.
The victims reportedly confronted their father about his behaviour, after which he promised to stop the abuse once they entered secondary school.
However, the prosecution said that on January 3, 2025, at about noon, Mason Seddoh allegedly forced the 15-year-old victim to have sexual intercourse with him.
On January 24, 2025, at about 2pm, he allegedly had sexual intercourse with the 18-year-old victim again.
The two victims subsequently reported the matter to the Adenta DOVVSU on January 31, 2025, and were issued police medical forms for examination.
On February 4, 2025, the mother of the 18-year-old victim handed the Police a packet of Fiesta condoms, which she alleged Seddoh had attempted to use during the abuse of her daughter.
Seddoh was arrested the same day.
The prosecution further told the court that on February 5, 2026, Seddoh led police investigators, accompanied by the victims, to the alleged crime scene at Oyibi.
The prosecution said Seddoh admitted committing the offences in his caution statement to the Police.
