The Ghana Education Service has activated the West African Examinations Council portal for the capture and uploading of candidates’ school choices for the 2026 Senior High School placement exercise, with the data submission window ending today, August 27.
The Ghana Education Service has opened the WAEC portal for the submission of school choices by candidates participating in Ghana’s 2026 Senior High School placement exercise.
The exercise is an important stage in the Computerised School Selection and Placement System because the information submitted by Junior High School authorities will be used in processing students for placement into Senior High Schools.
The Ghana Education Service activated the portal on August 24 and gave schools a four-day period to complete the capture and uploading of candidates’ school-selection information.
The deadline for the exercise is Thursday, August 27, making today an important date for schools that have not yet completed the process.
Headteachers have been instructed to ensure that eligible candidates’ choices are properly captured and uploaded.
Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education have also been directed to supervise the process closely.
The supervision is intended to ensure that schools comply with the requirements and that candidates’ information is accurately entered into the system.
The placement process is significant because Senior High School selection determines the institutions where many students will continue their secondary education.
Students and parents therefore have a strong interest in ensuring that school-choice information is correctly captured.
Errors in candidates’ information could create difficulties during the placement process.
The GES has therefore encouraged schools to pay attention to the details submitted through the portal.
The exercise follows the completion of the Basic Education Certificate Examination process and forms part of preparations for the next stage of students’ education.
The Computerised School Selection and Placement System was introduced to make the placement of students more systematic and transparent.
Through the system, candidates are expected to select schools based on their preferences and available placement arrangements.
The system also helps education authorities manage the large number of students seeking admission to Senior High Schools across Ghana.
The submission of school choices is consequently an important administrative stage.
Junior High School heads have responsibility for ensuring that students’ selections are properly recorded.
Education directorates are expected to monitor schools within their jurisdictions and provide assistance where necessary.
The four-day submission window is relatively short, making timely completion particularly important.
Schools that fail to submit the required information within the deadline could create difficulties for students whose choices have not been captured.
Parents and guardians have also been encouraged to communicate with their children’s schools to ensure that the necessary information has been submitted.
The process is particularly important for students who have carefully considered their preferred schools and programmes.
Senior High School choices can influence the educational environment students enter and the programmes they are able to pursue.
Students may select schools based on location, academic programmes, boarding or day status and other factors.

The GES’s instruction to education directors to monitor the process is therefore important.
The exercise comes ahead of the eventual release of placement results, which will determine the schools to which candidates are assigned.
Once placement is completed, students and parents will be expected to follow the instructions provided by the GES concerning admission and reporting.
For now, the immediate priority is completing the school-choice data capture.
Schools that have not yet completed the exercise have until the end of today to submit the required information.
The Ghana Education Service is expected to review the data after the submission period before moving to subsequent stages of the placement process.
The 2026 SHS placement exercise is expected to affect thousands of students across Ghana.
Its successful implementation will depend on accurate information, effective supervision and cooperation among schools, parents, students and education authorities.
As today’s deadline approaches, schools are being urged to complete all outstanding submissions and ensure that candidates’ choices have been correctly captured.
